Well, it’s a Tuesday night and I found myself doing the usual scroll through the socials—when I spotted a familiar face. A friend we made on our recent March trip to Seoul has just celebrated one year in business with her beautiful restaurant, and it’s absolutely thriving! That little spark of connection brought all the delicious memories flooding back. So here we are—a tribute to Seoul’s unforgettable food scene.
Let me just say this: Seoul knows how to do food. Whether you're booking a table at a rooftop restaurant in Gangnam or grabbing a steaming skewer from a street vendor in Myeongdong, you're in for something special. The flavours are bold, the presentation is thoughtful, and the attention to detail? Impeccable. South Korea (and Seoul in particular) takes pride in every element of a dining experience—from the plating to the service, no matter the price point.
And the service? Exceptional. It doesn’t matter if you're in a five-star fine dining spot or a hole-in-the-wall eatery tucked down a side street—you’ll always be welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality.
One of our most memorable meals came from one of those unexpected travel moments. My husband and I were strolling through Insadong, on our way to Bukchon Hanok Village—a beautifully preserved part of Seoul where traditional hanok houses line narrow, winding streets. It’s a slice of history nestled between palaces, and honestly, it’s like stepping back in time.
As we explored the charming streets, we stumbled upon a tucked-away treasure: Hanok Pasta.
From the moment we stepped inside, we were hooked. The restaurant had an arty, cozy and relaxed vibe—walls adorned with artworks, a creative menu that mixed Korean and Italian flavours, and a dining space that overlooked a peaceful courtyard. Strung with soft outdoor lights, the courtyard also featured a small stage set up for live performances from local bands and singers. The whole place just radiated creativity—from the food to the art to the music.
And then there was Jenny, the owner, chef, and all-around force of nature. We met her during that visit and quickly became friends. Her warmth and passion shine through in everything she does. You could tell this wasn’t just a restaurant—it was her vision come to life. A space where people could gather, connect, and enjoy something truly unique.
Congratulations to Jenny and her team for a successful first year—and many more to come! It’s businesses like hers that add such magic to Seoul’s food scene, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.
Places like Hanok Pasta are what make travel so rewarding. Yes, the big sights are amazing—but it’s these little finds, the spontaneous discoveries, and the people you meet that stay with you the longest.
So if you're heading to Seoul, come hungry and stay curious. Let yourself wander. Whether it’s street snacks or sophisticated fusion, Seoul’s food scene is full of surprises—and so worth exploring.
More foodie finds and Seoul stories coming soon. Until then, happy travels (and happy eating)!
